I am less than I should be.

This was in my friends category of assessments, based on the thought that I don’t think I’m always there for my friends as much as I could be. I think this is generated by the idea that I should have to be something for other people. A big part of it is not knowing what to say or do when someone else is going through something difficult. Of course I want to be there for friends, but I don’t think doing that should make me feel like less. I think a better way to come at the issue and change the assessment would be, “I want to work at becoming better at understanding people in difficulty and knowing how to help them.”

My core belief is passion, meaning always follow your passions and keep doing the things you love.

How do you see yourself? For this I drew a mess of lines and color and blank space, which represents my artistic, creative, and messy tendencies, as well as the part of myself that I haven’t discovered yet.

How others see you? I portrayed myself as a solitary bubble in this category, meaning alone and maybe a little precarious.

How are you when things go well? The dragon represents pride, joy, and victory.

How are you when things don’t go your way. I used wild and messy lines to draw a storm representing inner turmoil and a lack of control.

Waldorf schools sound like they might have a little in common with my old high school. They both seem to deviate from more traditional teaching. Mine had a pretty flexible curriculum that focused on tailoring the program to each student’s needs. Each semester students would choose a theme and most of their classes would be taught through that theme. Some of the themes I can remember are art, photography, storytelling, food, the outdoors, traveling, STEM, and government. Everyone also had a teacher that they connected with weekly to share their learning experiences outside of school.
Astronomy is something I’ve wanted to get into for a while as well. A few years ago I learned a bit about it so I could paint some astronomical themed art to decorate my sister’s apartment. I haven’t really had a chance to learn more about it since.
I don’t exactly remember when I started horseback riding. I think it has to be around ten years by now. My sister and I originally started riding through our 4-H club. We took lessons from the 4-H instructor for several years, up until she moved and sold all of her horses and we ended up buying two of them. Do you have any animals?

I used to ride fairly frequently, but not so much anymore. Now that the weather has finally cooled down a little bit I might try to get in the habit more often.

Hi Odin! Waldorf schools sound really interesting, I’d never heard of them before. It’s cool that you kind of got to stick around even after graduating because of your kindergarten assistant job. I saw you mentioned that you had a hard time narrowing down which of your interests to mention. What are some of your other ones?

Hello, my name is Meryl. I’ve lived in Wisconsin for my entire life, but about nine years ago my family moved out to the countryside where we now have horses, an apple orchard, and a fair amount of woodland. I was homeschooled from first to ninth grade and in high school I started attending an online Canadian school until I graduated last May. Some of my hobbies include reading, drawing, painting, photography, theatre, and horseback riding.
I started considering a gap year because I didn’t feel ready to go off to college yet and I think I need to take some time to figure out just who I am and what I want to do with my life. Parzival seemed like a good fit to help me achieve both of those goals. Last year I made a huge improvement in my mental health, and another one of my goals for the year is to focus on furthering that alongside attending Parzival. I’m looking forward to meeting you all and can’t wait for the program to begin!
